How much time do you have? Is that a pregnant pause?
If there is a group the conversation is a riotous mess of syllables and adjectives with little meaning or coherence. When it is only the two, every word counts.
Some of the best writings are these conversations between two people. Unfortunately you can’t remember what you said the next day. You don’t even remember her eye color.
The funny thing after years have passed, those words will be recalled though tainted by time. They may sound more important now than at the time they left your mouth. They may have had interpretations assisted by others. They may finally be understood.
Getting later in life there is no time to waste on banter. Get to the core of the matter or don’t waste the air.
Or without saying a word, the silence speaks volumes.
